Salt Works Collectors Edition

Salt’s ionic lattices are one of the central elements of organic life. But even though the extraction of sea salt is one of the oldest forms of human landscaping, we rarely ask where salt comes from and how it is produced. Sea salt production sites are found all over the world, usually located around shallow shorelines. Tom Hegen has explored these magical landscapes from the air and obtained spectacular images in the process. This gorgeously illustrated book shows in seven chapters how the landscape has been shaped by salt mining and how the mining process has created structures that take on an almost painterly, abstract quality in Hegen’s photographs. Images featured in this book have been taken all around the world. Salt Works is a study of color and geometry, an ode to the beauty of the everyday.

Human Altered Landscapes

"In recent centuries humans have become one of the most important factors influencing the biological, geological and atmospheric processes on Earth. Meanwhile, we have left our marks on more than two-thirds of the Earth's surface. Scientists now suggest that we should live in a new human era, called Anthropocene."

Human Altered Landscapes

The book HABITAT explores the relationship between man and nature by aerial photography. It raises the question of when a man’s influence on Earth began and how our civilization has developed since that. Five chapters and 90 photographs show on over 180 pages traces of human presence on Earth.
